Rothschild Manor - St. Jean-Cap-Ferrat

We toured the mansion which was built in 1905 by Beatrice de Rothschild in the centre of St. Jean-Cap-Ferrat.  The Rothschild family had made their money in banking.  Briefly married, after her separation, she was a bitter woman and found some relief in the construction of the mansion which she decorated with French antiques.  Her husband, an influential French banker, had gambled away his fortune and the Rothschild family was worried that they would also be liable so the forced a separation.  The "season" for the south of France was from January to March and Beatrice hosted many elaborate parties.
